Establo Alpacas & Farmstay

Establo Alpacas & Farmstay is situated in Dunedin, New Zealand, and is only a 6km drive from Dunedin's town centre. We are delighted to offer guests a fully self-contained 4-bedroom holiday home that offers unique accommodation by virtue of its rural surroundings, ocean views and location. We invite you to experience a farm setting with some unique and wonderful animals while enjoying the peace, space and comfort of the farmstay. Experience farm activities, such as feeding and walking alpacas, while you enjoy your stay in this spacious home located less than 10 minutes from the Octagon.

Farmstay Rainbow

Establo Farmstay is 350m above sea-level. This not only means you get some spectacular views of Dunedin City, but you are also above the snow line. At least a couple of times a year we receive some decent snow falls. This is warmly greeted by our children, who are very quick to get out the toboggan and skis. The snow does not last for long, but it is very much enjoyed. The alpacas do not seem to mind it either!!

Pictured in these photos are our children handling the alpacas. These alpacas are used to people touching them. They have also had a few outings in the back of the van to various places, including school fairs, where they have been inundated with cuddles from lots of children of varying ages.

Dunedin has many attractions and with the farmstay situated just 6km from the town centre you will be able to visit these and enjoy all Dunedin has to offer. The Dunedin Visitor's Centre has a wealth of tourist information and booking services. There are a number of walking and mountain bike tracks near the farm stay for those keen on outdoor activities. We would like to make your stay in Dunedin as enjoyable as possible, and are happy to answer any questions or provide help with your holiday plans while you are staying in Dunedin.

Central Otago Rail Trail

We have cycled the entire rail trail and can thoroughly recommend it. This year-round cycling/walking trail is open to everyone, and there is no cost for using it. The trail follows 150km of old railway line through some of Central Otago's most memorable scenery, including tunnels and via ducts. Cyclists and walkers can enter the trail from a number of places. Some of the most spectacular scenery of the trail is just over an hour's drive from Dunedin, making a day trip experience possible. Because it is the old railway line the hills are not steep, making it accessible to most ages and those with a reasonable degree of fitness. Most riders cope with four hours of cycling a day. The rail trail runs from Middlemarch (less than 60 minutes from Dunedin) through to Clyde (just over 2 hours from Dunedin). The trail takes a slight uphill gradient from Middlemarch to Wedderburn (approximately half way), then a similar gradient, but downhill, from Wedderburn to Clyde. If you are considering doing part of the trail we recommend starting no further than Wedderburn and heading towards Middlemarch (unless you like to ride uphill). If you are wanting a short ride, the 10km ride from Daisy Bank to Hyde takes in some amazing scenery, and the Hyde Hotel is a lovely place to have a well earned drink and bite to eat.
